Alyda Huerta

Class of 2019 | Electrical Engineering, Mathematics

If I could be any element, I would be: Magnesium (it shines brightly).

Hi! I was born in the beautiful city of Glendale Heights, Illinois and grew up in Mexico City and Chicago. I attended the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy and played basketball for seven years and soccer for four years. I enjoy participating in sports but I am also very artistic. I was involved in drama as well as was involved in choir and took voice lessons for eight years (I am classically trained, so I love listening to classical and broadway choir music). I absolutely love music- one of my favorite pastimes is watching youtube videos of song covers, watching clips of singing competitions, and watching dance videos. In my free time, I will usually watch a lot of TV (Netflix + movies) while cooking (I LOVE cooking!), spend time on Pinterest, or on Buzzfeed (there's Buzzfeed videos for everything!). Currently in MIT, I am a sister of Alpha Chi Omega, on the women's lightweight crew team, the publicity director for the Latino Cultural Center, on the MIT Dance Troupe, as well as on the THINK team! I love spending time with my friends and chilling while having insightful discussions. I am very passionate about gender equality and social justice and I hope to become more involved in that in the MIT campus. I am looking forward to a great year with the THINK team!
